NYU vs Brown for internships: which school gives better access and support?

NYU has the clearer edge for internships during the school year because of its location, employer access, and the way internships are woven into student life. Being in New York City means students can realistically intern part time in finance, media, tech, fashion, arts, policy, and startups without waiting for summer.

Location is the biggest differentiator. At NYU, students can often commute a short distance to internships while taking classes, which matters a lot if you want repeated exposure to employers, easier informational interviews, and more chances to turn one experience into another. Brown students absolutely get strong internships too, but Providence does not offer the same day-to-day density of major employers, so many opportunities are more summer-focused or require travel to Boston, New York, or elsewhere.

The second difference is how each school’s ecosystem supports networking. NYU’s presence in Manhattan creates a more constant stream of panels, alumni events, company visits, and industry-specific programming tied to nearby employers. Brown has a loyal alumni base and a strong reputation, especially for students who are proactive, but the networking process is often a bit less immediate because the campus is not embedded in the same corporate hub.

For built-in support, both schools offer career advising, internship funding resources, and alumni connections, but NYU tends to feel more operationally convenient for in-semester internships.
