Is Northeastern or Boston College better for marketing?
I’m a high school junior trying to narrow down colleges and both Northeastern and BC are on my list. I’m interested in marketing and want to understand which school is generally stronger for that major and career path.
I’m mostly trying to figure out which one would give me better preparation and opportunities for marketing.

The biggest practical tradeoff is structured career experience versus a more traditional business-school path. Northeastern stands out because its co-op model gives marketing students built-in, full-time work experience before graduation, and that matters a lot in a field where internships, portfolios, and employer contacts carry real weight. Boston College offers a strong business education through the Carroll School of Management and has an excellent alumni network, but it is not as centered on extended pre-graduation work placements in the way Northeastern is.
For marketing specifically, Northeastern often has the edge in hands-on preparation. Students can rotate through co-ops in areas like brand marketing, digital marketing, market research, and communications, which can make it easier to test different parts of the field and graduate with more concrete experience. In marketing, that kind of resume can be especially valuable because employers often want evidence that you have worked on campaigns, analytics, content, or client-facing projects.
Boston College is still a very solid option, especially if you want a classic undergraduate business environment with strong academics and a well-connected alumni base. Carroll is well regarded, and BC can be particularly appealing if you are interested in combining marketing with broader business training, strong writing and communication skills, and a campus culture that feels more traditional than Northeastern’s. BC’s network in business-related fields is a real asset, especially in the Northeast.
If the question is which school is better for preparing you directly for a marketing career, I would lean Northeastern. Its experiential model lines up unusually well with what marketing employers look for, and students often leave with more substantial work experience than peers at schools with a standard internship setup. BC is a strong choice, but for marketing in particular, Northeastern usually offers the clearer practical advantage.
