Is WashU or Georgetown better for consulting recruiting and careers?

The biggest practical tradeoff is geography and built-in employer access versus a more flexible, lower-pressure campus path. Georgetown benefits a lot from being in Washington, DC, where students can network year-round, intern during the semester, and tap into a very visible alumni base in policy, business, and consulting-adjacent work.

For consulting specifically, Georgetown usually has the edge in day-to-day exposure to recruiters and alumni. Its location makes coffee chats, informational interviews, part-time internships, and networking events much easier, and that matters in consulting because recruiting often starts early and relationship-building helps. Georgetown’s brand is especially strong in East Coast professional circles.

WashU is still a very credible option for consulting and can absolutely get students there. It has strong academics, smart peers, and firms do recruit there. In practice, though, WashU is a bit less naturally plugged into a consulting-heavy professional ecosystem than Georgetown, so students often need to be more intentional about joining the right clubs, preparing early for case interviews, and building networks beyond campus.

Another difference is the kind of pre-professional culture you want. Georgetown tends to feel more outward-facing and network-oriented, which can be a real advantage for consulting recruiting. WashU often appeals to students who want excellent academics and strong support without quite the same DC career intensity.

If your main priority is maximizing your path into consulting, Georgetown would be my pick. It offers the stronger combination of location, alumni connectivity, and ongoing access to employers, which is hard to replicate. WashU can still work very well, but Georgetown gives you more of the ecosystem that makes consulting recruiting easier to navigate.
