Tufts vs NYU campus location: which one feels better for a student who wants a real college campus?

Tufts will feel much more like a real college campus. It has a defined undergraduate campus spread across a hill in Medford and Somerville, residence halls clustered around academic buildings, green space, and a day-to-day environment where students are very visibly part of the setting. NYU, by contrast, is woven directly into Manhattan, so your college life happens inside the city rather than apart from it.

One big difference is physical layout. At Tufts, you can walk across a recognizable campus and feel the shift between academic spaces, dorm areas, and student hangouts. That creates a more contained, student-centered atmosphere. NYU has buildings concentrated around Greenwich Village, especially near Washington Square Park, but it does not have the same enclosed campus boundary. You are constantly mixing with the public, city traffic, and the pace of New York.

The housing experience also changes the feel a lot. Tufts housing tends to reinforce campus life because many students live close together in a more residential environment. At NYU, even though students do live in dorms, the experience is more integrated into the city, and daily life often involves moving through busy streets rather than staying inside a distinct campus bubble.
