Is UT Austin or Notre Dame better for accounting undergrad?

UT Austin has the edge for undergraduate accounting. Its McCombs School of Business is especially well known in accounting, and the integrated access to a major public university, a large business school, and the Austin-Texas recruiting market gives accounting majors unusually deep employer volume from the start.

One concrete difference is program strength and specialization. UT’s accounting department is one of the most established names in the field, with a long track record of placing students into public accounting, advisory, and corporate roles. For a student who already knows accounting is the target, UT offers a more obvious, direct pipeline and a larger peer network in that exact major.

Another difference is recruiting scale. UT benefits from heavy on-campus interest from Big Four firms and other major employers, especially across Texas, which is one of the biggest accounting job markets in the country. That matters because accounting hiring is often very structured: internships, early recruiting, and firm relationships can make the path from classroom to offer more straightforward.

Notre Dame is still a very strong option, and Mendoza has an excellent reputation overall with a loyal alumni network. Where Notre Dame stands out more is in its smaller, more personal business-school environment and broad national alumni loyalty, not in having a more dominant undergraduate accounting brand than UT.

Cost can also matter here more than people expect. If you are in-state for Texas, UT can be an especially compelling value for accounting given the strength of the program and the recruiting access. For pure undergraduate accounting reputation and career outcomes, though, UT Austin is the name I would put slightly ahead.
