How does admissions difficulty at UMass Amherst compare to Brown University?

Brown is far more difficult to get into than UMass Amherst. Brown is one of the most selective private universities in the country, and admission there means competing against a very large pool of applicants with top grades, rigorous coursework, and unusually strong extracurricular profiles. UMass Amherst is selective in some programs, but as a university it is much more accessible than Brown and belongs on a very different part of a college list.
