Boston University has the more walkable and convenient setting for most students. BU sits directly along Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, with the Green Line running through campus, city buses nearby, and everyday essentials like cafes, groceries, pharmacies, and restaurants woven into the area. You can live there very easily without a car, and the campus connects seamlessly to the rest of the city.

BU is much more integrated into its surroundings. Instead of feeling set apart, the campus is part of an active urban corridor, so getting off campus for errands, internships, entertainment, or a quick meal is simple and routine. That also means students have fast access to neighborhoods like Fenway, Back Bay, and Cambridge via public transit rather than needing special planning.

Cornell’s campus is beautiful and quite walkable within itself, but the larger setting is less convenient day to day. Ithaca is a smaller college town with steep hills, harsher winters, and more limited transit compared with Boston. Students can get around campus and downtown Ithaca by bus, but it does not offer the same level of dense, easy access to city infrastructure that BU has.
