Is NYU or the University of Richmond more fun for undergraduates?

The biggest tradeoff is city energy versus campus community. NYU gives you nonstop activity because you are embedded in New York City, with restaurants, concerts, internships, and nightlife always around you, but it does not offer the classic contained campus feel. The University of Richmond is the opposite: it has a true residential campus, a more centralized student social life, and day-to-day fun that is easier to access without planning around the city.

For the average undergraduate, Richmond often feels more straightforwardly enjoyable on a daily basis. Students live in a more self-contained environment, social events are easier to find through campus organizations, and it is simpler to run into friends, join traditions, and feel part of a shared undergraduate culture. At NYU, a lot of the fun depends on how proactive and independent you are, because students are spread across the city and social life is less concentrated.

That does not mean NYU is boring. For students who love urban freedom, NYU can feel far more exciting than Richmond because your social scene is not limited to campus programming. A random week can include exploring different neighborhoods, seeing live shows, trying new food, and meeting people well beyond the university. But some undergrads find that this freedom comes with friction: commuting between buildings, less spontaneous campus togetherness, and a social life that can feel fragmented.

Richmond is usually the easier place to have fun in a consistent, everyday way. NYU can be the more thrilling option, but only if you actively want the city to function as your campus.
