Is Tulane or Fordham better for accounting?

The biggest practical tradeoff is location and recruiting: Fordham puts you in New York City, which creates unusually direct access to accounting internships during the school year, while Tulane offers a strong business environment in New Orleans but with a smaller accounting recruiting market. For accounting specifically, that year-round proximity to major firms matters because internships, networking events, and office visits often turn into full-time offers. Both schools can prepare you well, but the path from classroom to employer is usually more immediate at Fordham.

Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business has a solid reputation in accounting and benefits a lot from being tied into the NYC finance and professional services ecosystem. Students can more easily reach Big Four and other firms for semester internships, alumni events, and recruiting without needing to wait for summer. That kind of access is one of the most concrete advantages an accounting student can have.

Tulane’s Freeman School of Business is also well regarded and gives you a strong undergraduate business education, but its accounting opportunities are more regionally centered. You can still reach national firms, and Tulane has strong alumni loyalty, but the recruiting pipeline is not as naturally built around accounting in the same way Fordham’s is. Tulane may feel broader and more flexible if you are still considering other business paths alongside accounting.

If your main question is which school is better specifically for launching an accounting career, I would lean Fordham. The combination of Gabelli’s business focus and New York access gives it a more practical edge for internships and early job placement in accounting.
