Is UCLA or Fordham better for business internships?

I’m trying to decide between UCLA and Fordham and keep thinking about internship opportunities for business. I want a school where it’s realistic to get good experience in finance, consulting, or related business fields while I’m still in college.

I know both schools are in very different locations and have different networks, so I’m trying to understand which one tends to give students a stronger path to business internships.

Fordham has the clearer edge for business internships, especially if you mean finance, consulting, and in-semester experience. Its biggest advantage is location: being in New York City makes it much easier to intern during the school year, not just in the summer.

That proximity changes the rhythm of college recruiting. At Fordham, students can stack experience earlier because they are close to employers, alumni events, informational interviews, and semester-long roles. For business fields where early exposure helps, being able to work in the city while taking classes is a real structural benefit, not just a networking talking point.

UCLA has a powerful brand and a huge alumni network, but for undergraduate business internships it is less direct. UCLA does not have a traditional undergraduate business school in the same way some peers do, so students interested in finance or consulting often build that path through economics, business economics, math/econ, student clubs, and self-driven recruiting. That can work very well, especially for strong students, but it usually takes more hustle and more intentional positioning.

The other concrete difference is geography of the target industries. Los Angeles offers strong opportunities in entertainment business, tech-adjacent roles, real estate, startups, and some consulting and finance, but it is not as concentrated for classic undergraduate finance recruiting as New York. If your idea of business internship strength is access to Wall Street-type finance and frequent term-time opportunities, Fordham is better aligned with that goal.

UCLA still carries more broad national prestige and can absolutely lead to strong outcomes, especially if you want flexibility beyond traditional business tracks. But on the specific question of internship access while you are an undergrad, Fordham gives you the more immediate pipeline.
