How did you get accepted to Amherst College?
I'm currently a junior and Amherst College is one of my top choices. I've been trying to figure out what makes a strong applicant there and would love to hear from anyone who has been accepted or is already attending.
If you got in, could you share what your stats looked like? Like, GPA, SAT/ACT scores, APs, leadership, or any special circumstances? Also, what did you focus on in your essays or activities list? I know there's no magic formula but hearing your story might help a lot.
If there were unique parts of your application, like being a first-gen student, national awards, or something else unusual, I’d be really interested to know if you think those helped your case, too.
Basically, I’d love to hear a bunch of sample application journeys to Amherst College to get a feel for the range of accepted students!

Hey there! I'm a 2018 grad and can tell you my exact profile.
Background: Asian-American from suburban public school in Ohio
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.3ish weighted (don't remember exactly).
SAT/ACT: 2300 superscore (1520 new SAT), 34 ACT
APs: 8 (US History, Gov, European History, French, Lang, Lit, Chem, Calc BC)
Activities: student council (1x VP, other times rep or secretary), cross country co-captain, selective regional orchestras, volunteering
Awards: National Merit Finalist, National Council of Teachers of English award
I wrote my Common App essay about having to poop during a run. I'm not joking - you can read it here: https://imperfectidealist.com/long-run-poop-college-essay/
I didn't do the Amherst-specific supplements and instead submitted a graded paper. I would generally recommend doing their supplements, but since I had such a creative Common App essay, I wanted to show my analytical skills in my supplement.
I help review essays and advise students on getting into Amherst, so if you need some personalized advice, feel free to reach out! Best of luck with your app!
