Is UCLA or NYU better for marketing careers after college?

I’m a high school senior trying to choose between UCLA and NYU, and I’m interested in marketing after college.

I know both schools have strong reputations, but I’m trying to figure out which one is generally better for getting internships, networking, and breaking into marketing jobs after graduation.

For marketing specifically, NYU often has the edge if you want the most direct access to internships, agencies, media companies, fashion and entertainment brands, and alumni networking during the school year. Being in New York matters a lot here because so much of the marketing industry is concentrated there, and NYU students can build experience semester after semester instead of waiting mainly for summer. UCLA is still excellent, especially for entertainment, brand marketing, tech-adjacent roles, and West Coast recruiting, but its biggest advantage is not quite as immediate as NYU’s day-to-day access.

NYU tends to fit the student who wants to treat college as an early launchpad into industry. If you like the idea of interning part time during the academic year, attending events with professionals regularly, and meeting alumni across advertising, luxury, media, startups, and consumer brands, NYU gives you a very practical setup. For marketing careers tied to advertising agencies, digital media, PR-adjacent work, fashion business, and brand strategy in New York, that proximity can translate into faster relationship-building.

UCLA fits the student who wants a more traditional campus experience while still keeping strong career options open. It is especially appealing if your marketing interests lean toward entertainment marketing, creator economy work, sports, consumer brands, or companies with a strong California presence. UCLA also has a powerful alumni network and strong name recognition, and Los Angeles offers real internship access too, just usually with a bit more logistical effort than NYU’s embedded city model.

If your priority is maximizing internships and networking during the school year, NYU is hard to beat. If you want strong marketing outcomes but also care a lot about campus life, school spirit, and a broader college environment, UCLA may feel like the more balanced choice.

One important practical note is undergraduate structure. At NYU, programs connected to business and media can feel more directly aligned with marketing pathways.

So for pure access to marketing internships and networking before graduation, I’d lean NYU. For someone equally excited by marketing and by having a classic large-university experience with strong West Coast opportunities, UCLA makes a lot of sense.
