Is Tulane or the University of San Diego better for business?
I’m trying to narrow down my college list and both of these schools are on it because I’m interested in business. I know they’re both solid private universities, but I’m not sure which one is generally viewed as stronger for business overall.
I’m mostly trying to understand which school has the better business reputation and opportunities for an undergrad who wants to study business.

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Tulane tends to offer broader name recognition and a more established undergraduate business identity, while the University of San Diego gives you a smaller, very undergraduate-focused business environment in a strong Southern California location. Tulane’s A.B. Freeman School of Business is one of the university’s most visible academic divisions, and business is a major draw there. USD’s Knauss School of Business is well regarded too, especially for students who want close faculty access and ties to the San Diego market.
Opportunity-wise, both can work well, but the geography creates different advantages. Tulane benefits from strong alumni energy and a business school culture that is very integrated into undergraduate life. USD gives you access to internships in the San Diego area, which can be especially useful for finance, real estate, marketing, entrepreneurship, and international business with a West Coast orientation.
The campus experience also differs in ways that affect business students. Tulane has a more nationally visible student culture and often attracts students from across the country, which can widen your network. USD tends to feel more contained and personal, and some students really value that if they want smaller classes and easier access to professors from the start.
If the question is which is stronger for business overall, I would lean Tulane. USD is absolutely a credible option, especially if you want Southern California and a somewhat smaller-scale environment, but Tulane is more often seen as the school with the stronger overall business profile.
