Is NYU or UVA better for consulting recruiting and internships?

For consulting, UVA usually offers the clearer undergraduate recruiting pipeline, especially if you are aiming for the most structured path into major consulting firms straight out of college. McIntire has a very established reputation with recruiters, UVA has a deep East Coast alumni network, and on-campus recruiting for consulting is a real strength there. NYU can absolutely get students into consulting too, but the path is often more self-directed and can depend more on how well you use the New York location.

UVA tends to fit the student who wants a traditional campus recruiting setup with strong employer visibility and a large peer culture around finance and consulting recruiting. If you are the kind of student who wants clubs, case prep, alumni mentorship, and firms regularly engaging with undergrads in a very organized way, UVA is hard to beat. For consulting specifically, that ecosystem matters because interview prep and referral networks often develop through student organizations and older students who have already gone through the process.

NYU makes more sense for the student who wants to build experience during the school year and is eager to hustle in the city. Being in New York can make it easier to pursue part-time internships, networking events, and informational meetings with alumni and professionals during the semester. That said, location alone does not automatically translate into stronger consulting recruiting, and some students at NYU need to be more proactive because the campus experience is less centralized than at UVA.

If your main goal is management consulting recruiting right after undergrad, UVA probably gives you the smoother runway. If you are highly independent, want access to New York during the semester, and are comfortable creating your own opportunities, NYU can still work very well. Between the two, the more dependable consulting pipeline is usually UVA, while NYU offers more of a city-driven, build-your-own path.
