Notre Dame has a bigger national reputation overall and a very loyal alumni network, but it is not embedded in the Bay Area in the same day-to-day way.

For Silicon Valley recruiting specifically, Santa Clara has a real location advantage. Being minutes from major tech employers matters because students can intern during the school year, attend local employer events more easily, and build relationships before junior-summer recruiting gets crowded. That kind of repeated in-person access is especially useful if you want software, product, IT, data, or other tech-adjacent roles right after graduation.

Notre Dame can still get you there, especially if you are a strong student who uses the alumni network aggressively. Its name carries well nationally, and employers know it. But for Bay Area outcomes, the path often depends more on intentional outreach, summer internships, and traveling farther from campus to plug into that ecosystem.

Another difference is the mix of employers around each school. Santa Clara students are more likely to interact with companies whose offices are nearby, from large tech firms to smaller startups. Notre Dame may offer broader national placement across industries, including consulting, finance, and engineering, which is great if you are not fully committed to Silicon Valley specifically.

If your priority is very specifically building a career in Silicon Valley, Santa Clara has the cleaner runway because the local network and internship access are part of everyday campus life.
