Is NYU or Notre Dame more fun for undergraduate students?

The biggest practical tradeoff is city freedom versus built-in campus life. NYU gives you New York City as your social scene, with endless restaurants, shows, internships, and neighborhoods, but it has a more decentralized undergraduate experience because there is no traditional enclosed campus. Notre Dame is the opposite: the fun is more campus-centered, with residence hall culture, football weekends, traditions, and a stronger sense that most undergrads are sharing the same social rhythm.

For a lot of undergrads, Notre Dame tends to feel more fun in the everyday sense because the social life is easier to access. People live in a tighter community, school spirit is unusually strong, and there are recurring traditions that make weekends and even ordinary weeks feel structured and lively. If what you mean by fun is having a built-in college atmosphere where it is easy to find your people and participate, Notre Dame usually delivers that more naturally.

NYU can be incredibly exciting, but it often takes more initiative. The upside is obvious: you are in Manhattan, so the range of things to do is much bigger and more varied than at almost any traditional campus. The downside is that social life can feel more self-directed, students are spread out, and the experience can be less cohesive if you want the classic undergraduate energy of everyone rallying around the same events.

On the academics side, both are manageable for strong students, but the day-to-day feel is different there too. Notre Dame often feels more contained and community-oriented, which can make it easier to balance classes and social life. NYU can feel faster and more independent, partly because the city itself competes for your time and attention.

If the question is simply which school feels more fun for undergraduates overall, I would give the edge to Notre Dame. NYU is more exciting in a big-city, create-your-own-adventure way, but Notre Dame more often feels like a satisfying, socially connected college experience right out of the box.
