Should I choose Northeastern or the University of South Florida for a finance major?
I'm trying to decide between Northeastern and the University of South Florida for finance. I want a school that will give me a strong business education and help me start my career after graduation.
Both options seem good in different ways, but I'm having trouble figuring out which one makes more sense for finance specifically.

For finance specifically, Northeastern usually offers the clearer path if your priority is early career access, especially because its co-op model is built around real work experience before graduation. USF can still be a solid choice, especially if cost is much lower for you or if you want to build a career in Florida, but it tends to make the most sense for a more budget-conscious student who is comfortable being proactive about internships.
Northeastern fits the student who wants a career-focused college experience from day one. The biggest advantage is not just classroom strength, but the structure: co-ops let you graduate with substantial resume experience, which is especially valuable in finance roles like corporate finance, financial analysis, wealth management, and some banking-related paths. Being in Boston also helps because there is steady access to firms, alumni, and in-semester opportunities that are harder to replicate on a more traditional campus.
USF fits a student who wants a practical business education at a lower price point and sees value in staying connected to the Tampa Bay market. Tampa has a growing business and financial presence, and USF students can absolutely land strong internships and jobs, particularly in corporate roles, banking, and finance positions tied to the region. But at USF, you may need to create more of your own momentum through networking, student organizations, and off-campus outreach rather than relying on a built-in co-op system.
If you are aiming for the broadest set of finance opportunities and can afford both without major strain, Northeastern is the more compelling option. If choosing Northeastern would require taking on significantly more debt, that changes the equation fast, because finance is a field where minimizing debt can matter as much as prestige. In that case, USF becomes much more attractive, especially if you are motivated and open to building your career in Florida first.
