At Northeastern, honors students typically take smaller honors seminars and can use honors advising, programming, and a built-in community of academically engaged peers. The program can appeal to someone who wants advanced discussion-based courses without separating their academic life from a professional path: co-op, research, global experiences, and an honors major can fit together. Faculty access is strongest when students actively use office hours, research opportunities, and smaller honors classes; the honors designation itself does not make every class small.

At UT Austin, the quality of the honors experience depends heavily on the specific program. Plan II is particularly distinctive for students who want a rigorous interdisciplinary liberal-arts curriculum with small classes and a thesis, even alongside another major. Major-based programs can create especially close faculty and peer networks in fields such as computer science, natural sciences, or business. UT’s enormous research university environment also provides exceptional faculty and research depth, though non-honors classes can be large and honors admission is often selective or separate from general admission.

Choose UT Austin if you have admission to a specific honors program whose curriculum genuinely fits your intellectual interests, especially Plan II or a strong major-based cohort. Choose Northeastern if you want a more flexible, cross-disciplinary honors structure integrated with co-op and are less interested in committing to a separate, highly prescribed honors curriculum.
