UCLA vs UNC for business: which is better for an undergraduate business career path?
I'm trying to decide between UCLA and UNC for undergrad, and I want to study business or go into a business-related career. I know both schools are strong overall, but I keep seeing different opinions about how much the school name, alumni network, and recruiting opportunities matter for business.
I’m mainly trying to understand which one tends to be the better choice for someone who wants a solid business path after college.

For a straight undergraduate business path, UNC usually has the clearer edge because it has the Kenan-Flagler Business School. UCLA is an excellent university with strong outcomes in economics, business economics, and student clubs, but it does not offer a traditional undergraduate business major in the same way UNC does. That difference matters if you want structured access to business coursework and a large base of alumni who specifically came through an undergrad business program.
UNC tends to fit the student who wants business to be central from early on. Kenan-Flagler gives you a recognizable undergraduate business brand. The alumni network is very engaged in those spaces, and for many students that creates a smoother path into internships and first jobs.
UCLA makes more sense for the student who wants a broader academic platform and is comfortable building a business path through economics, business economics, math/econ, statistics, or related majors. In Los Angeles, there is real access to media, entertainment business, startups, tech, and West Coast internships, and UCLA’s overall name carries a lot of weight. But you would likely need to be more proactive with clubs, networking, and course selection because the business route is less packaged.
If your goal is classic undergraduate business preparation, especially for finance, consulting, accounting, or corporate recruiting, UNC is usually the more direct and efficient choice. If you are drawn to UCLA for location, campus culture, and the flexibility to explore business-adjacent fields while still aiming for strong business outcomes, UCLA can absolutely work, but it is the more self-directed route.
