Which is better for computer science, Adelphi or the University of Maryland?

I’m trying to narrow down my college list and I’m interested in computer science. Both Adelphi and the University of Maryland are on my radar, but I’m not sure which one would be the stronger choice overall for CS.

I mainly want to know which school is generally better regarded for computer science and would give me a stronger experience as a student in that major.

For computer science, the University of Maryland is the much stronger option in overall reputation, depth of the program, and access to opportunities. Maryland has a well-established CS department, a larger technical ecosystem, and strong connections to government, research, and industry because of its location near Washington, DC. If your main question is which school is more widely recognized for CS and likely to offer a broader experience in that major, Maryland is the clearer answer.

Maryland makes the most sense for a student who wants a bigger, more rigorous CS environment with lots of specialized coursework, research labs, student tech organizations, and recruiting activity. Being near major employers and federal agencies is also a real advantage for internships and project-based work.

Adelphi fits a different kind of student. It may appeal more to someone who values smaller classes, a more intimate campus feel, and potentially more direct access to professors. That can be a real plus for students who learn best in a less overwhelming setting. But in CS specifically, Adelphi is not regarded at the same level as Maryland, and it is less likely to offer the same breadth of courses, research infrastructure, or employer visibility.

So if you are comparing them strictly on the strength of computer science, Maryland stands out pretty clearly. Adelphi could still be a reasonable choice if you strongly prefer a smaller private-school environment and that matters more to you than program prestige or scale, but for the strongest CS experience overall, Maryland has the edge by a wide margin.
