How do UC San Diego and ETH Zurich compare for engineering reputation and career outcomes?

I’m trying to narrow down my college list for engineering and these two schools keep coming up. I know they’re both well respected, but they seem pretty different in terms of location, student experience, and global recognition.

I want to understand how they compare overall for engineering, especially if someone is thinking about internships, graduate school, and job opportunities after graduation.

Student experience matters too. ETH is typically more theoretical and academically intense in a classic technical-university way, while UC San Diego offers a broader campus environment with more flexibility, a wider range of student life, and a more conventional U.S. college experience.
