Is UC Davis or University of Georgia better for internships?

The biggest practical tradeoff is location and employer ecosystem: UC Davis gives you much better access to California industries and nearby major metro areas, while the University of Georgia offers a more self-contained college-town experience with strong support but fewer large internship hubs right next door. During the school year, Davis students can realistically tap Sacramento, the Bay Area, state government, health, agriculture, biotech, and tech-adjacent roles. At UGA, Athens has opportunities, but many students lean more heavily on Atlanta for larger corporate internships, which usually means more travel or a summer-focused search.

For internship access in general, UC Davis has an edge because California is simply a deeper market across more sectors. Davis is especially well placed for agriculture, environmental science, animal science, food science, public policy, engineering, and health-related paths, and Sacramento adds year-round options in government, nonprofits, and policy work. If your interests overlap with tech, finance, consulting, or startups, being in California also helps, even if Davis itself is not in the Bay.

UGA does a good job on career support, and its alumni presence in Georgia is real, especially in business, media, public relations, education, and public service. The limitation is less about school quality and more about geography. Athens is a classic college town, not a major employment center, so students often need to be more intentional about building connections in Atlanta or elsewhere.

In terms of support, both schools have solid career centers, employer recruiting, and alumni networks. The difference is that at Davis the surrounding region creates more in-semester internship possibilities without requiring a full relocation, which matters a lot if you want repeated experience before senior year.

So on internships alone, I would lean UC Davis for most students, especially if you want broad access across industries and easier school-year options. UGA can be just as effective if you know you want to build a career in Georgia or the Southeast and are comfortable making Atlanta a big part of your internship search.
