USC vs Berkeley for marketing: which is better for an undergraduate marketing career path?
I’m trying to choose between USC and Berkeley and keep seeing different opinions about which one is stronger for marketing. I know both are great schools overall, but I’m mostly thinking about internships, networking, and getting a first job in marketing after college.
I’m not looking at a specific program year or rankings, just which school tends to be the better choice if marketing is the main goal.

The biggest practical tradeoff is structure versus access: USC gives undergrads a more direct business-and-marketing pipeline with heavy alumni networking, while Berkeley offers unmatched Bay Area proximity and brand strength but a less marketing-specific undergraduate path.
For an undergraduate marketing career path, USC often has the edge because it is set up in a way that maps more cleanly onto marketing internships and entry-level roles. USC tends to be especially strong for brand marketing, entertainment marketing, media, consumer products, advertising-adjacent work, and roles where relationship-building matters early.
Berkeley is still an excellent option, especially if you may end up leaning toward product marketing, tech, growth, analytics, or startups. Being in the Bay Area creates real access to tech companies and innovation-focused internships, and Berkeley’s academic reputation carries a lot of weight. But for pure undergraduate marketing preparation, Berkeley can feel a bit more indirect because its strongest undergraduate identity is often broader business, economics, or data-driven problem solving rather than classic marketing training.
If your main goal is to maximize undergraduate networking, internship access, and a smoother path into a first marketing job, I’d lean USC. Berkeley becomes more compelling if you want marketing in a tech-centered environment or you like the idea of keeping the door wide open to adjacent paths like product, analytics, or consulting.
