UW is especially attractive for the student who wants to be plugged into a very active engineering and tech job market during college. Seattle creates real advantages for internships, co-ops, and networking, particularly for computer-related fields, electrical engineering, industrial and systems engineering, and areas that intersect with major regional employers. UW Engineering is highly respected, and for some students the practical access to companies and applied work can matter just as much as brand prestige.

For an undergraduate, the better experience may come down to what kind of opportunities you want to use. A student excited by research breadth, a highly visible UC degree, and the scale of Los Angeles may find UCLA more compelling. A student who wants an engineering education closely connected to nearby industry and a campus culture strongly tied to tech and innovation may prefer UW.
