How do Tufts and UVA compare for social life as a college student?

Tufts and UVA do have noticeably different social atmospheres. Tufts tends to feel smaller, more low-key, and a bit more quirky, with a social scene built around friend groups, clubs, campus events, and access to Boston rather than one dominant party culture. UVA feels more traditionally high-energy and socially visible, with a bigger school spirit presence, a stronger weekend scene centered on the campus community, and more of a sense that social life is happening all around you.

For a student who wants social life to feel active but not overly intense, Tufts often appeals because it is easier to step in and out of things. A lot of students find their people through student organizations, house gatherings, performing arts, cultural groups, and shared academic or activist interests. Because the campus is smaller and residential life is close-knit, it can be pretty easy to run into familiar faces, but the social scene is less centralized, so some students love the flexibility while others feel they have to be more intentional about making plans.

UVA fits students who like a more outwardly social campus where traditions, sports, and weekend activity are a bigger part of everyday life. The school has a strong sense of community, and many students say it is not hard to meet people because there is so much happening through clubs, Greek life, athletic events, and dorm life early on.
