Is NYU or Tufts better for internships?

For internships specifically, NYU usually has the clearer built-in advantage because of location. Being in New York City means students can reach part-time internships during the semester across finance, media, tech, arts, nonprofits, healthcare, and startups without needing to leave campus life behind. NYU also has a long-established pattern of students interning during the academic year, not just in the summer, which matters a lot if you want frequent access and volume of opportunities.

NYU tends to fit the student who wants the city to function as an extension of campus. If you like the idea of taking classes and also commuting to an internship at a company, hospital, studio, bank, or nonprofit in the same week, NYU makes that unusually practical. That setup is especially helpful for students in fields where repeated internships build momentum early, such as business, communications, film, journalism, entertainment, public policy, and some areas of tech.

Tufts makes more sense for the student who wants strong advising and access to Boston-area opportunities, but in a more traditional residential college environment. You can absolutely get internships from Tufts, especially in healthcare, biotech, research, policy, education, and nonprofits, with Boston and Cambridge nearby. The difference is that Tufts is not quite as immersed in the day-to-day internship ecosystem the way NYU is, so opportunities can feel a bit less constant and less woven into ordinary weekly life.

Tufts may appeal more if you want tighter campus community and are comfortable being more intentional about internship timing, including summers and selected semester opportunities. NYU is often better for the student who wants sheer proximity, fast networking, and the ability to test different industries while still in school. In practical terms, both can lead to excellent outcomes, but NYU usually offers easier access, while Tufts offers a more contained college experience with solid but slightly less immediate internship reach.
