Is UChicago or Notre Dame better for accounting?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Notre Dame gives you a much more direct undergraduate accounting path, while UChicago offers elite overall academics and brand strength but not the same accounting-specific setup. Notre Dame has an undergraduate business school with a dedicated accounting major through Mendoza, established recruiting pipelines, and a campus culture where accounting is a standard and well-supported path. UChicago is outstanding academically, but it is not the place most students choose for a straightforward undergraduate accounting track.

For accounting specifically, Notre Dame makes more sense. Mendoza is well known for undergraduate business education, and accounting is one of the clearer, more developed options there. That matters because accounting recruiting often depends on structured access to the right coursework, clubs, employer visits, and alumni in audit, tax, and advisory.

At UChicago, you would be approaching accounting more indirectly. The College is centered on liberal arts, economics, and quantitative disciplines, and students interested in business often angle toward consulting, finance, economics, or later graduate study rather than a classic undergrad accounting route. You can absolutely build strong analytical skills there, but if your goal is accounting classes plus direct recruiting into accounting firms, it is less tailored.

Internship access also leans Notre Dame for this particular interest. Big firms recruit nationally at both schools, but Notre Dame is more naturally aligned with undergraduate business recruiting, including students who want CPA-oriented preparation. The alumni network there is also known for being especially engaged and practical in helping undergrads into business roles.

If you are specifically accounting-focused as a high school senior, Notre Dame is the stronger choice. UChicago is the better pick only if you are unsure you actually want accounting and would prefer a more theoretical, flexible, less business-specialized undergraduate experience.
