UC Berkeley has the clearer edge for tech recruiting and day-to-day access to the software industry. Berkeley sits right next to Silicon Valley and is deeply embedded in startup hiring pipelines. For internships, founder networks, and direct exposure to big tech and venture-backed companies, Berkeley usually creates more opportunities simply because the ecosystem is denser and more tech-specific.

Location matters a lot here. Berkeley students can more easily attend hackathons, founder events, research collaborations, and interviews tied to Bay Area companies during the school year, not just over the summer. That proximity also helps with part-time work, startup internships, and casual networking that often turns into referrals.

Harvard still places students very well in tech, especially into product, quant, entrepreneurship, and prestige-conscious roles where a broad elite brand opens doors. Its alumni network is exceptionally powerful, and for someone who may want to keep one foot in tech and another in policy, business, or investing, Harvard has unusual flexibility. But for a student focused mainly on software internships, startup exposure, and being in the center of the tech talent pipeline, Berkeley usually provides the more direct lane.
