Arizona State or Purdue for internships: which is better for finding internship opportunities?

The biggest practical tradeoff is location and employer ecosystem versus national engineering brand. Arizona State gives you access to the Phoenix metro area, which makes in-semester internships and part-time industry work more realistic because there are many nearby companies in tech, semiconductor, business, healthcare, and manufacturing. Purdue has a very strong employer reputation, especially in engineering, computing, and aviation-related fields, but West Lafayette is less of a large local job market, so many internships happen in the summer or require students to travel.

For sheer convenience of getting experience during the school year, ASU has an edge. Being in the Phoenix area matters a lot if you want to work during the semester, build connections locally, and stack multiple internships before senior year. ASU also has a large career services infrastructure and a broad employer base that recruits across many majors.

Purdue stands out when you look at employer pull in technical fields. Companies know Purdue well, and its engineering and STEM programs have long-established recruiting pipelines. If you are in a field like mechanical, electrical, aerospace, industrial, or computer engineering, Purdue can open very strong doors, even if those opportunities are not all physically nearby during the semester.

So the answer depends a bit on your major, but for finding internship opportunities in a practical, day-to-day sense, ASU is often easier because of its metro location and access to local employers. For high-powered recruiting strength, especially in engineering and certain technical areas, Purdue may carry more weight.
