Is Ohio State or Fordham worth it for college?

Both can absolutely be worth it, but in very different ways. Ohio State tends to make the most sense for a student who wants a large university with broad academic options, big-campus energy, and often a stronger value proposition, especially if the price is reasonable. Fordham makes more sense for someone who will truly use its New York City location, wants a medium-sized private university with Jesuit roots, and prefers a more contained academic and social environment than a huge state flagship.

For the student who wants flexibility, Ohio State is often easier to justify. It has the scale of a major public research university, a very large alumni network, extensive student life, and strong access to research, internships, and campus resources across many fields. If you are still exploring majors or want the classic big-school experience with lots of options, that breadth has real value.

For the student who is specifically drawn to city-based opportunities, Fordham can be worth the premium, but only if you will actively use what you are paying for. Its location can matter a lot for internships in business, media, politics, nonprofit work, and the arts, and some students thrive in a setting where campus life is tied closely to New York. The Jesuit emphasis can also appeal to students who want more focus on discussion-based classes, ethics, and a liberal arts core.

A practical way to judge “worth it” is to compare net cost, not sticker price, and then ask what you are gaining that you would actually use. If Fordham costs much more, the question is whether its size, setting, and network are important enough to your goals to justify that gap. If Ohio State is notably cheaper, it is often easier to defend because lower debt creates more freedom after graduation.
