What is campus life like at Ohio State compared with Fordham?

The biggest day-to-day tradeoff is scale versus setting: Ohio State gives you a classic huge-campus, high-energy college environment, while Fordham offers a smaller, more contained student experience shaped heavily by New York City. At Ohio State, school spirit is very visible, especially around athletics, student organizations, and campus traditions, and it tends to feel busy almost all the time. At Fordham, the atmosphere is more split between campus life and city life, so students often build community through smaller groups, residence halls, internships, and friend circles rather than one dominant campus culture.

Ohio State feels unmistakably like a major Big Ten university. There are tons of clubs, large events, packed recreation spaces, and a student body big enough that you can constantly meet new people. That can be exciting if you want variety and energy, but it can also mean you need to take more initiative to make a large school feel personal.

Fordham is usually more close-knit in everyday interactions. Students are more likely to recognize familiar faces, and the campus atmosphere, especially at Rose Hill, can feel more compact and self-contained even though you are in New York. At the same time, the city pulls students outward, so social life is not centered as fully on campus as it is at Ohio State.

At Ohio State, involvement often means joining a big campus organization, attending sports events, and plugging into traditions shared by thousands of students. At Fordham, involvement can feel more intentional and smaller-scale, with many students balancing clubs and campus events with internships, off-campus outings, and time spent exploring the city.

If you want the most traditional, spirited, big-school student life, Ohio State is the clearer match. If you would rather have a smaller campus feel with New York access and a social scene that is less dominated by one central campus culture, Fordham is likely easier to picture yourself in.
