Is Ohio State or Georgetown worth it for undergrad?

The biggest practical tradeoff is price versus access: Ohio State gives you a much lower-cost, high-resource Big Ten experience, while Georgetown charges a premium for its smaller scale, Washington location, and unusually strong pipelines into politics, policy, international affairs, and some finance roles. Georgetown’s setting in D.C. creates day-to-day access to internships during the school year in a way Ohio State usually cannot match. Ohio State, though, has far broader campus life, major-school energy, and enough academic and career infrastructure that many students can reach similar outcomes without taking on nearly as much debt.

For overall value, Georgetown is most worth the extra money when you know you want fields where its brand and location matter a lot, especially government, diplomacy, public policy, political journalism, or certain East Coast consulting and finance paths. In those areas, the alumni network and semester-time internship access are real advantages, not just marketing. If that is not your likely direction, the return on the extra cost becomes much harder to justify.

Ohio State is often the better undergrad value simply because it offers a huge amount for the price: strong academics across many majors, a massive alumni base, major research opportunities, Division I campus culture, and a classic residential college experience. It is especially compelling for students who want flexibility, since changing majors or exploring different interests is easier at a large university with depth in almost everything. For pre-med, engineering, business, and many mainstream career paths, Ohio State can be an excellent deal.

Campus experience is also very different. Georgetown is smaller, more intimate, and more tied to D.C. than to a traditional contained campus culture. Ohio State feels much more like the full-scale college experience, with bigger school spirit, more social options, and more breadth in student life.

If Georgetown would require substantial debt, Ohio State is usually the smarter call for undergrad. Georgetown becomes worth it mainly when the price gap is manageable for your family and you are likely to take direct advantage of the specific opportunities that are unusually strong there.
