UT also has a strong national reputation in CS, and many students are drawn to the mix of top academics with the energy of a large flagship in a major city.

In outcomes, both schools place students very well into software engineering jobs, big tech recruiting pipelines, and graduate study. The difference is usually less about prestige and more about which ecosystem fits you better: a classic engineering powerhouse with a deeply rooted CS identity at UIUC, or a similarly elite CS program embedded in a fast-moving tech city at UT Austin.
