Which is better for finance careers, Tulane or Boston University?
I’m trying to decide between Tulane and Boston University and want to focus on which one is better for breaking into finance after college. I’m interested in the overall recruiting network, internship opportunities, and how strong each school’s name is for getting interviews.
I know both are respected, but I’m having a hard time telling which one gives students a better path into finance careers.

The biggest practical tradeoff is location and recruiting depth versus a smaller, more tightly connected finance pipeline. Boston University gives you direct access to Boston internships during the school year and stronger day-to-day proximity to banks, asset managers, and financial firms. Tulane has a loyal alumni base and a real presence in finance, especially for students who use the Freeman School of Business well, but its path is usually a bit more relationship-driven and less helped by being in a major finance hiring hub.
For pure finance access, BU has an edge. Being in Boston matters because students can intern part time during the semester, attend more employer events nearby, and build experience earlier without having to rely only on summer recruiting.
Tulane is absolutely not out of the conversation. It places students into finance, consulting, and related business fields every year, and its alumni can be very responsive, especially in New York, Houston, and the South. The Freeman School is well regarded, and Tulane students who are proactive often do very well, but the school does not benefit from the same immediate volume of local finance employers that BU does.
If your main goal is maximizing interview volume, internship access during the academic year, and visibility with firms in the Northeast, Boston University is the stronger option. Tulane can still work very well, especially if you prefer its campus culture and are confident you will network aggressively, but for the most straightforward route into finance careers, I would lean BU.
