Tulane vs NYU for accounting: which is better for internship and job opportunities?
I’m trying to decide between Tulane and NYU and want to study accounting. Both seem like strong schools, but I’m mostly thinking about how each name helps with internships and getting a job after graduation.
I’m looking at the overall career value of the accounting program and the recruiting opportunities that come with each school.

The biggest practical tradeoff is location and recruiting density versus a more traditional campus experience. For accounting internships and jobs, NYU has the clearer edge because it sits in New York City, places students close to Big Four and other major firms during the school year, and benefits from very deep employer access through Stern. Tulane can still lead to strong outcomes, but the recruiting market is smaller and more regional, with a lot of strength in New Orleans, the South, and certain finance and business circles rather than the same day-to-day proximity to national accounting employers.
If your priority is internship access as early and as often as possible, NYU is hard to beat. Being in Manhattan matters for accounting because students can network, attend firm events, and pursue semester internships without needing to wait for summer. NYU’s brand is also especially visible in business hiring, and that tends to help with both first-round access and alumni connections.
Tulane has real advantages too. Its business school is well regarded, and Tulane graduates do land at major accounting firms, especially in southern markets. The school can offer a more cohesive campus environment, and some students find it easier to build close faculty relationships and stand out in a smaller business community.
For pure accounting career value, though, NYU is the stronger pick. The combination of NYC location, employer concentration, and business-school recruiting infrastructure gives it more built-in momentum for internships and full-time jobs.
