Brandeis vs Northeastern for city life: which campus feels more urban?

Northeastern will feel much more urban on a daily basis. Its campus is in Boston itself, right next to major neighborhoods, public transit, restaurants, museums, and internship sites, so city life tends to be part of an ordinary week rather than something you plan for separately. Brandeis is in Waltham, which is close to Boston but does not feel like living in the middle of the city.

For a student who wants to step off campus and immediately be in a busy, connected environment, Northeastern fits that experience far better. You can use the T easily, walk to nearby areas, and build a routine that includes the city without much effort. That matters if your idea of college includes grabbing food off campus often, exploring different neighborhoods, going to events, or doing work and internships woven into city life.

Brandeis makes more sense for someone who wants access to Boston without being surrounded by it all the time. You can absolutely get into the city from Brandeis, and students do, but it is more of an intentional trip than an extension of campus. Day to day, Brandeis feels more self-contained and suburban-residential, even though it benefits from being in the greater Boston area.
