Which is better for internships, Northwestern or NYU?

NYU has the edge for internships, mainly because its New York City location makes during-the-school-year access much easier and more frequent. Being embedded in Manhattan means students can realistically intern part time during fall or spring with finance, media, tech, nonprofit, arts, and startup employers nearby. That proximity matters because it turns networking events, coffee chats, and short-notice opportunities into normal parts of college life rather than occasional trips.

Location is the biggest separator. At NYU, many students build experience semester by semester because employers are local and public transit makes commuting practical. At Northwestern, Chicago does offer strong internships, but Evanston is still a separate campus environment, so in-term internships usually require more planning and travel. Summer opportunities are strong from both schools, but NYU makes it easier to stack smaller experiences throughout the academic year.

Employer access is strong at both places, but in somewhat different ways. Northwestern has an excellent reputation, a loyal alumni network, and solid recruiting, especially in consulting, journalism, engineering, and some business-related paths. NYU benefits from constant employer presence in the city and a very large alumni base concentrated in New York, which tends to help with volume and frequency of opportunities.

One area where Northwestern can still be very attractive is support and campus cohesion. Students often find it easier to build close relationships with professors, advisers, and peers on a traditional campus, and that can translate into strong recommendations and mentorship. But if the question is specifically which school tends to make internships easier to access during college, NYU is the clearer answer.
