Is Boston College or UVA better for accounting?

The biggest practical tradeoff is specialized undergraduate business access at UVA versus Boston College’s strong accounting reputation within a private-school, Northeast-focused recruiting network. UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce is one of the most established undergraduate business programs in the country, and it gives accounting students a very structured path into major firms. Boston College, through the Carroll School of Management, is also very well regarded and tends to place especially well in Boston, New York, and other East Coast markets.

For pure undergraduate accounting setup, UVA often has a slight edge because McIntire is so prominent with recruiters and because the overall commerce program has exceptional reach across consulting, finance, and accounting. That matters if you want flexibility in case you later decide between audit, tax, advisory, or a broader business path. UVA also benefits from a very large alumni base and strong on-campus recruiting at scale.

Boston College is absolutely a serious option for accounting, though, and in some cases it may be just as effective, especially if you want to build your career in the Northeast. BC’s accounting department is respected, the alumni network is loyal, and Big Four recruiting there is strong. The school can feel a bit more targeted and relationship-driven than UVA’s larger public-school ecosystem.

If the question is which school is more powerful overall for accounting recruiting and career optionality, I’d give UVA the nod. If you know you want Boston or New York, prefer BC’s environment, and like the more direct business-school entry, Boston College remains a very credible choice and not a meaningful step down for accounting.
