University of Michigan vs MIT for computer engineering: which is better?

I’m a high school student trying to decide between University of Michigan and MIT for computer engineering. I know both are strong schools, but I’m trying to understand which one is generally considered the better choice for this major.

I’m mostly thinking about the overall strength of the computer engineering program and how the two schools compare academically.

For computer engineering, MIT is usually viewed as the more academically intense and more globally prominent option. It often feels like a place where you can build a slightly more customized path while still ending up with strong technical training and very good career outcomes.

So if “better” means highest academic prestige and the deepest elite-tech atmosphere, MIT has the edge. If “better” includes wanting a top computer engineering program inside a larger, more flexible university setting, Michigan is still a very serious choice, just not the one most people would rank above MIT on pure academic reputation in computer engineering.
