Which is better for finance: Bowdoin or Notre Dame?

I’m trying to compare Bowdoin and Notre Dame for someone who wants to go into finance after college. I know both schools have different vibes and strengths, but I’m not sure which one gives better overall support for breaking into finance.

I’m mainly trying to understand which school is the stronger choice for finance recruiting and career outcomes.

Notre Dame is the stronger choice for finance recruiting and career outcomes. The biggest reason is that Notre Dame has a full undergraduate business school, the Mendoza College of Business, with a direct finance pipeline, finance-focused coursework, and a much larger on-campus recruiting presence tied to business roles. For a student who already knows they want finance, that structure matters a lot.

Notre Dame gives you more built-in access to finance-specific preparation. You can study finance in a formal undergraduate business setting, join investment and finance clubs with strong training pipelines, and tap into alumni networks that are especially active in banking, investing, and corporate finance.

Bowdoin is an excellent liberal arts college, but it does not offer the same direct finance infrastructure. You would likely major in economics, math, or a related field and build your finance story through internships, clubs, and alumni outreach rather than through a dedicated business program. That path can absolutely work, especially because Bowdoin has a loyal alumni base and strong overall placement, but it usually requires more self-direction.

Another difference is scale and visibility in recruiting. Notre Dame tends to have a broader national finance network and more organized access to employers, especially for students targeting investment banking, asset management, consulting-adjacent finance roles, or corporate finance. Bowdoin can still place students well, particularly through elite small-college networks, but the pipeline is less obvious and less extensive.

Bowdoin may still appeal more if you strongly prefer a small liberal arts environment and want flexibility beyond business. But on the specific question of finance recruiting support and career launch, Notre Dame has the clearer edge.
