Its ties to major research activity and health-related opportunities can matter if you are thinking about medical school, PhD programs, biotech, or lab-intensive work after college.

UNC Charlotte can still be a smart choice for a biology major, especially for a student who wants a somewhat more approachable environment and likes being in a growing urban university. Charlotte’s location can be useful for internships, healthcare exposure, and applied experiences, and some students prefer a campus where it may be easier to build relationships with professors earlier. That can be valuable if you want hands-on involvement without competing in such a large biology pipeline.

The tradeoff is that UNC Charlotte is usually not seen as having the same national depth or breadth in biology as UF. If your priority is the strongest overall biology reputation, the widest menu of science opportunities, and robust preparation for competitive next steps, UF has the edge.
