Is UNC Charlotte or Ohio State better for marketing careers?

I’m trying to decide between UNC Charlotte and Ohio State and want to study marketing. I care most about which school would be better for getting internships, meeting employers, and building a path into a marketing job after college.

Both seem like solid options, so I’m having trouble telling which one would actually be better for a marketing career.

For marketing specifically, Ohio State usually gives you a broader and more established recruiting pipeline. Columbus has a large and growing corporate scene, and Ohio State’s alumni network is much bigger and more national, which tends to matter for internships, employer access, and first jobs. If your priority is maximizing recruiting reach across many cities and larger brand-name employers, Ohio State has the clearer edge.

Ohio State fits the student who wants a high-energy, big-campus environment with lots of structured recruiting and a large business community. You would likely see more employer events, more competition for top roles, and more pathways into areas like brand management, market research, sales, digital marketing, and corporate rotational programs. Columbus is also a useful place for marketing because it has major companies, agencies, startups, and retail-related businesses nearby.

UNC Charlotte makes a lot of sense for the student who wants a more regional, city-connected path, especially in Charlotte and the Southeast. Its location is a real asset: Charlotte has a strong business base in finance, real estate, healthcare, sports, and growing startup activity, all of which create marketing-related opportunities. The university has a practical, career-oriented feel, and students who are proactive can build strong local networks and land internships that turn into full-time roles.

UNC Charlotte can be especially appealing if you want smaller-scale access, lower cost, or know you want to work in Charlotte after graduation. In that setting, being in the city and consistently interning can be very valuable. But if you are comparing pure reach, employer recognition, and the depth of recruiting infrastructure for business students, Ohio State is the stronger platform for a marketing career.
