Miami vs Fordham for business: which is better for internships and job placement?

I’m trying to choose between the University of Miami and Fordham for business, and I keep seeing both mentioned as good options. I want to understand which one tends to give students better access to internships and stronger job placement after graduation.

I’m especially interested in the overall business school reputation and how much the location helps with recruiting.

Fordham has the edge for internships and job placement in business, mainly because of its New York City location and the way that feeds directly into semester-time recruiting. Being in the Bronx with easy access to Manhattan gives students regular exposure to finance, consulting, media, retail, and corporate internships during the school year, not just in the summer. For many business students, that matters a lot because repeated in-semester experience often turns into stronger resumes and earlier professional networks.

Location is the biggest separator here. Fordham students can realistically intern part time at firms in Manhattan while taking classes, and that proximity helps with coffee chats, networking events, alumni meetings, and interviews. Miami has a solid business environment too, especially in real estate, hospitality, international business, and Latin America-facing industries, but its internship ecosystem is usually more concentrated in certain sectors rather than as broad across industries as New York.

In terms of business school reputation, both are respected, but Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business is particularly well known in the Northeast employer market. It has strong visibility with employers in finance and corporate roles, and its alumni presence in New York is a real advantage for recruiting. University of Miami’s Herbert Business School is well regarded, especially in the Southeast and in fields tied to Miami’s economy, but it does not benefit from the same density of nearby major employers across so many sectors.

For job placement, Fordham tends to offer the more direct pipeline, especially if you think you may want finance, consulting, accounting, marketing, or corporate strategy in a major metro area. Miami can absolutely lead to strong outcomes, particularly if you want to build a career in South Florida or in industries where Miami is especially connected, but for overall internship access and recruiting volume during college, Fordham is the one I’d lean toward.
