Miami vs FSU for business school: which is better for internships and recruiting?

University of Miami has the edge for internships and recruiting if that is your main priority. Its location in Miami puts you much closer to a dense business market, especially in finance, real estate, hospitality, consulting, and international business, and that tends to translate into more in-semester internship access.

The biggest differentiator is geography. Miami students can realistically intern during the school year with firms in Brickell, Coral Gables, downtown Miami, and nearby corporate offices, which matters because repeated in-semester experience often leads to stronger resumes and faster recruiting traction. Florida State is in Tallahassee, where there are opportunities, but the local market is much smaller and more shaped by government, policy, and public-sector activity than by major private-sector business recruiting.

Another difference is employer mix. Miami is better positioned for students aiming at finance, wealth management, real estate, marketing, luxury and hospitality, or Latin America-facing business roles. FSU can still place students well, especially those who hustle for summer internships or want careers connected to government, insurance, risk, or regional corporate employers, but it usually requires being more proactive about recruiting outside the immediate area.

Cost can change the decision, though. If FSU is dramatically cheaper, that financial gap may outweigh the recruiting advantage, because outcomes in business still depend heavily on your own initiative, internships, and networking once you arrive.
