UC Davis tends to stand out more for a traditional pre-med path. Being connected to a major medical school and health system can make shadowing, clinical volunteering, and medically related research feel more integrated into the university environment.

Arizona State is absolutely a viable pre-med option, and some students do very well there because of its scale and initiative-driven culture. ASU has solid science programs, lots of research activity, and honors options that can make a big campus feel smaller. For a student who is organized, seeks out professors early, and wants to carve their own path, ASU can provide plenty of ways to build a competitive application.

Where UC Davis usually has the edge is in the concentration of pre-health resources and the credibility of its health-adjacent academic setting. Where ASU can be appealing is affordability, flexibility, and the possibility of standing out if you take advantage of available opportunities quickly. GPA also matters enormously for med school, so the better choice is not just the school with stronger pre-med surroundings, but the one where you can excel academically without burning out.

If cost is similar and you want the more naturally pre-med-oriented environment, I would lean UC Davis. If ASU is meaningfully cheaper or offers you a setup where you are more likely to earn a very strong GPA and avoid heavy debt, that can outweigh the difference.
