University of Arizona is still a legitimate, solid public university, but in a head-to-head comparison it is more often the value option when the price difference is large.

One major differentiator is academic and research environment. UC San Diego is known for a more rigorous, research-heavy culture, with access to faculty labs, medical and biotech connections, and a student body that is often very academically driven. That can matter a lot if you want strong graduate school preparation or internships tied to science, healthcare, data, or engineering.
