For undergraduate computer science, UC Berkeley has the edge for most students because its CS ecosystem is broader, more internationally legible in tech hiring, and especially strong at the undergraduate level. Berkeley gives undergrads unusual access to major CS research, a huge range of advanced electives, and direct proximity to Silicon Valley companies and startups. Tsinghua is absolutely elite, but Berkeley is the option that more consistently translates into undergraduate research visibility, internship access, and recognition across the U.S. and global tech industry.

One major difference is the undergraduate CS environment itself. Berkeley’s EECS and CS programs are deeply embedded in one of the largest academic computing communities in the world, with strength across AI, systems, theory, security, HCI, robotics, and data science. On reputation, both names are prestigious, but they signal somewhat different things. Tsinghua carries enormous weight in China and is highly respected internationally, especially in technical fields. Berkeley, though, tends to have wider immediate recognition for CS among U.S. graduate programs, major tech employers, and startup circles, which matters if you may work, intern, or apply to grad school in the United States.

The main reason to choose Tsinghua instead would be if you want to build your career primarily in China or you strongly prefer its academic structure and environment. But on pure undergraduate CS experience, Berkeley offers the more powerful combination of program depth, research exposure, and career adjacency.
