Is Cal State LA or UC Berkeley better for law school prep?

Berkeley also has its own law school on campus, which matters because it creates more opportunities to hear from legal scholars, attend panels, and connect with students already in that pipeline.

One major difference is the academic environment and course selection. Berkeley has especially strong departments in political science, history, philosophy, economics, English, and sociology, all of which can help with the reading, argumentation, and analytical writing law schools value. You do not need a specific major for law school, but Berkeley gives you more chances to take demanding discussion-based classes that sharpen the exact skills the LSAT and legal study rely on.

Another advantage is the pre-law infrastructure. Cal State LA can still absolutely lead to law school, especially for a student who wants smaller-scale support or lower cost. But purely on pre-law preparation, campus resources, and access to legal opportunities, Berkeley has the clearer edge.
