Is UC Berkeley or Cornell more fun for college life?

Both can be fun, but they feel fun in very different ways. UC Berkeley tends to feel more energetic, city-connected, and spontaneous day to day because you are right next to restaurants, concerts, student activism, San Francisco transit access, and a constant flow of things happening off campus. Cornell usually feels more self-contained and tradition-heavy, with a social life that is built more around campus events, close friend groups, Greek life, outdoor activities, and the shared experience of living in Ithaca.

Berkeley fits the student who wants a lively atmosphere where the campus blends into a real urban environment. On weekends, a lot of the fun comes from choice: exploring Telegraph, going into Oakland or San Francisco, checking out food spots, club events, performances, and just being around a campus that always seems in motion. The tradeoff is that Berkeley can feel less like a sealed-off college bubble, so the social scene is a bit more decentralized and you may need to be proactive about finding your people.

Cornell fits someone who likes a stronger residential campus identity and a more classic college feel. Because Ithaca is more isolated, students often socialize through campus traditions, house parties, club events, hockey games, Greek life, and trips around the gorges, lakes, and trails. That can make the community feel tighter and more immersive, especially on weekends, though the town itself offers less variety than the Bay Area and winter changes the pace.

If your idea of fun is constant movement, off-campus options, and a bigger-city vibe, Berkeley usually feels more alive. If your idea of fun is a close-knit campus scene where most people are doing the same cluster of activities together, Cornell often feels more socially cohesive.
