Is University of Washington or Colorado School of Mines better for engineering?

I’m trying to decide between University of Washington and Colorado School of Mines for engineering, and I keep seeing both recommended for different reasons. I’m mainly interested in which one is generally stronger for an engineering student in terms of academics and overall experience.

I know “better” can depend on the type of engineering, but I’m looking for a broad comparison to help narrow down my list.

If you mean "better" in the broadest sense, I would give the edge to University of Washington because of its scale, research strength, and location-driven opportunities. I would put Mines ahead only if you know you want a concentrated engineering culture and prefer a smaller, highly technical school over a large flagship experience.
